“This was just an idea I had when I was annoyed with my data bundle finishing all the time. I asked my brother (Developer of Ananse Companion & KloseApp Nana Kwame Nyantakyi) if he could make an app like that, instead, he told me that was going to be my first project. I didn’t expect that but I thought, ‘how difficult could it be’?”. This was the statement given by Emmanuel Kwakye Nyantakyi, the creator of DataBank.
DataBank is a data saving Android app developed by 15-year-old to save data usage. He saw the discomfort in always checking your data once in awhile to see that you’re in a safe zone for that download or stream.
After finishing his Basic Education Certificate Examination, Emmanuel realised the problem he had with his data bundle and with encouragement and mentorship from his older brother he developed DataBank. Of course, he did not expect all the challenges ahead like dealing with the learning and mastering of programming languages but a month, tremendous determination and a lot of online tutorials later he was able to develop a viable solution to his internet and data problem and hopefully help all those with the same problem.DataBank is designed to help the user manage the data usage – of Android devices with Android version KitKat or lower – more efficiently.
A user can choose to use only a specific amount of data and save the rest and activate that particular data plan in the app which will begin to record the live data by the android device. After 50% usage of the data plan, the service sends a notification to the user alerting them of the amount of data used. It does this after 80% of the data plan has been used as well. After 95% usage has been clocked, DataBank automatically switches off both the WiFi and the cellular data of the android device and saving the user from unnecessary consumption of data.
DataBank also provides the following advantages:
Efficient management options
Push notifications on Data usage alerts
Graphical Chart representation
Simpler and easy to understand terms
Additional updates will be made to the app to include features that will allow users to set the type of data usage to save, whether it is WiFi or mobile data. The data plan will be MB or GB.
